This SxS Refrigerator Defrost Thermostat is a safety device that clips onto the evaporator in the freezer. The Defrost Thermostat turns off the defrost heater in case it gets too warm in the freezer section. If your refrigerator does not defrost, both the thermostat and heater can be tested to determine which part is at fault. Note that a multimeter (item 964740) can be used to test for continuity to determine if the thermostat is defective and requires replacement. This part includes 6" leads. Replacing this part will require basic hand tools, disassembly of the refrigerator and novice repair experience. You must unplug the refrigerator or shut off the house circuit breaker for the appliance before installing this part.
